Real Estate Licensing Requirements
SALES LICENSE
- Must be at least age 18
- Must complete an approved 72-hour course
- Must pass a State of WI exam
- Must send all necessary paperwork and fees to the Dept. of Safety and Professional Services, State of WI
BROKERS LICENSE
- Must be at least age 18
- Must have held a sales license for at least two years and must have actively worked for a broker in two of the last four years
- Must have accumulated at least 40 points while working under a broker in two of the past four years. Points are earned as follows:
- Each residential sale closing = 5 points
- Each commercial sale closing = 10 points
- Each 12 month lease signed = .5 points/month of lease
- Must have completed an approved 72-hour course for brokers
- Must pass a State of WI broker’s exam
- Must send all necessary paperwork and fees to the Dept. of Safety and Professional Services, State of WI
CONTINUING EDUCATION
- All real estate licenses in WI expire Dec. 14 in the even numbered years
- To renew your license all licensees must take 18 hours of approved continuing education classes
- Proof of attendance must be submitted to the Department of Safety and Professional Services on their website
- Complete all paperwork and pay the necessary fee for license renewal
- Anyone getting a license prior to Oct. 1 of the even numbered year must complete continuing education to renew their license
